I’ve been using my FoodSaver for 8 or 9 months and FoodSaver V2440 Vacuum has consistently met or surpassed my expectations. It replaced an older model which quit sealing after about 5 years of heavy use. Although I debated the price for this item, I wanted some of the extra features this model has. In the past I have used another brand which was totally unsatisfactory; it lacked vacuum power and sealed poorly. The FoodSaver’s powerful vacuum pump really will crush aluminum cans and deform many “tin cans”.The FoodSaver has intuitive controls and is very easy to use. The “handsfree” design means no need to continually press a button or the lid while the unit is operating. The wider sealing strip will seal even in the presence of moisture – very useful when packaging fresh meats or leftovers. Foods really do last longer and taste fresher. Items such as cheese or brown sugar don’t dry out and last for months. Left-overs can be refrigerated or frozen and are easily reheated by venting the bag and placing it in a pot of boiling water or in the microwave. After the holidays I make up plates of food, pre-freeze, then seal the meal in a bag and keep it in the freezer until I want, for example, a plate of turkey, potatoes and gravy, stuffing, and vegetables. The food tastes fresher and is a fraction of the cost of a store-bought frozen meal. The bags can be washed and reused (except bags which stored fresh meat or poultry) to save you even more money. I’ve added quite a few accessory containers to store dry goods or liquids. Using the instant-seal button allows me to package and save delicate items such as muffins and chips. The plastic bags most chips come in can also be resealed using the FoodSaver.
